SafetyMails' MailTester allows you to analyze an email campaign and identify areas that require attention before using it in your mailings. The tool checks various aspects of the message, such as authentication settings, HTML code, anti-spam and phishing indicators, as well as other technical characteristics of the email.

At the end of the test, your campaign receives a score from 0 to 100 and a detailed report with the findings, making it easier to identify potential adjustments.

Important: Each email sent for analysis to MailTester uses 100 credits from your SafetyMails account.

How to Use MailTester

In the side menu of the SafetyMails platform, go to MailTester. On the home screen, you’ll find a unique email address for running the test.

Click “Copy Address,” and then, using the email marketing, automation, or CRM tool you normally use, send the campaign you want to analyze to that email address.

It’s important to send the email using the same tool you’ll use for your actual campaigns. This way, MailTester can analyze the received message while also taking into account the information and settings used during the send.

As soon as the email is received, the analysis will start automatically. The test box will continue to monitor for receipt while you send the email.

Credit usage: Each new email received and analyzed by MailTester counts as one test and consumes 100 credits.

Test Results

After processing, the results will appear on the MailTester screen. Each test is assigned a score from 0 to 100, and you can click “View Report” to see the details of the analysis.

The tests remain available on the platform for 90 days, allowing you to review the results again during that time.

Understanding the MailTester Report

When you click “View Report,” you’ll have access to the information collected during the campaign analysis.

The first section displays data such as the sender, subject line, preheader, message size, and test date. The report also shows the email’s overall score and the key metrics identified during the analysis.

Email Preview

MailTester allows you to view the received message to check how the campaign content was processed. You can also view various details related to the message's structure, including its source code and header.

This information is especially useful for investigating technical elements in the email and identifying potential issues in the campaign's setup.

DNS and Authentication Settings

The report checks various settings related to the domain and email authentication, displaying individual results for items such as:
  • SPF
  • DKIM
  • DMARC
  • ARC
  • MX
  • SOA
The details provided in the report help identify settings that need to be reviewed and those that were recognized correctly during the test.

Analysis with SpamAssassin

MailTester also displays the results of the analysis performed by SpamAssassin, showing the rules identified in the message and the score associated with each one.

This way, in addition to knowing which elements require attention, you can see which characteristics of the message were identified by the antispam engine.

Signs of Phishing

The report looks for characteristics that may indicate a message contains signs associated with phishing.

Among the elements that can be identified are a high number of URLs, links to different domains, generic text in links, discrepancies between the displayed address and the actual destination, hidden elements in the HTML, and other patterns found in the message.

These metrics help identify aspects of the campaign that can be revised before sending out new emails.

Advanced Message Analysis

The Advanced Analysis section includes additional checks on the email's structure and content.

MailTester can flag, for example, issues related to HTML weight, images without alt attributes, the presence of shortened links, and the absence of the List-Unsubscribe header, in addition to reporting checks that did not reveal any problems.

The goal is to provide a more comprehensive view of the technical aspects of the campaign so you know exactly which areas require attention.

How to Interpret the Scores

The score from 0 to 100 serves as a summary of the results found during the test. The more issues or relevant indicators that are identified, the greater the need to review the report and address the highlighted points.

The score should be used in conjunction with the detailed information in the report. It does not guarantee or predict that the email will reach the inbox, as campaign delivery also depends on other factors not covered by this test.

After making the necessary adjustments, you can resubmit the campaign to MailTester and run a new analysis to check the updated results. Keep in mind that each new test uses 100 credits.
